Based on the Broadway musical of the same name, The Prom is still charming without the singing and dancing.
Emma Nolan just wants to go to prom with her girlfriend Alyssa Greene, but the people in small-town Indiana have different plans. In need of good publicity, Broadway starts Barry Glickman and Dee Dee Allen rush in from New York to campaign for an inclusive prom while getting coverage.
The one glaring mistake is that the novelization discarded Trent Oliver and Angie Dickinson from the stage show and merged elements of their characters with Barry and Dee Dee. It’s sad for them to be missing, but understandable in condensing characters.
However, the addition of Emma’s grandma and the ability to read in Alyssa’s voice really helps develop the already beautiful story further.
Final say: This story could change lives. ★★★★☆
