Film: Godzilla – King of Monsters

Opened: May 31, 2019

Directed by: Michael Dougherty

Starring: Kyle Chandler, Vera Farmiga, Millie Bobby Brown, Bradley Whitford, Sally Hawkins, Charles Dance, Thomas Middleditch, Aisha Hinds, O’Shea Jackson Jr., David Strathairn, Ken Watanabe, Zhang Ziyi, Joe Morton, CCH Pounder, Elizabeth Ludlow, Jonathan Howard, Randy Havens & Anthony Ramos

Reintroducing kaiju figures like King Ghidorah, Mothra & Rodan to the big screen, King of the Monsters has great CGI fights, but lacks in storyline and energy.

Five years after San Francisco’s attack, Alan Jonah (Charles Dance) wants to use the Titans to restore balance to the world and employs Dr. Emma Russell (Vera Farmiga) to help. Her ex-husband Dr. Mark Russell (Kyle Chandler) is recruited to help save the Titans.

In her film debut, Millie Bobby Brown shines, though her character’s personality isn’t written or acted much different than her role in Stranger Things. The film is full of stars, but they all get lost in the muddled script.

A majority of the film consists of Godzilla and the Titans fighting humans or each other so by the final fight, it feels boring.

Final say: Not king of the cinema. ★★☆☆☆
