Featuring the undeniable talents of underrated actors Steve Carell and Domhnall Gleeson, The Patient is an intense psychological thriller that you won’t be able to stop watching.

After establishing therapy with Dr. Alan Strauss (Carell), serial killer Sam Fortner (Gleeson) kidnaps him and makes him a prisoner in his basement while trying to work on his homicidal urges. Though Sam’s mom Candace (Linda Emond) knows of the situation, Dr. Strauss is on his own in escaping.

The production is very tight with most of the action happening in the basement and the three leads working off each other. Carell plays an intense range of emotions, while Gleeson will continually make you uncomfortable.

Does it all seem realistic in the modern world? Not really. But will you care? Most likely not.

Final say: Entrancing from the start. ★★★★☆
