While The Bodyguard is now a beloved romance film, a rewatch will easily show its flaws, but the music is undeniably outstanding.
When famous actress and singer Rachel Marron (Whitney Houston) begins receiving threats from a stalker, her team employs help from reluctant former Secret Service Agent Frank Farmer (Kevin Costner). Despite their different views on her safety, the pair begin a romantic relationship.
The chemistry between Costner and Houston is palpable but is also sunk by the melodramatics surrounding it. There is so much happening in the script that at points its hard to follow and never easy to believe.
However, Houston’s songs from the film are iconic with the soundtrack spurning “I Have Nothing,” “Run to You,” and Dolly Parton-penned “I Will Always Love You.”
Final say: The third star is just for the music. ★★★☆☆
