Though a cute story, Toy Story 4 doesn’t live up to the reputation that precedes it. In the end, it makes key characters in the franchise make decisions that go completely against everything we’ve come to love them for.
Now in the hands of Bonnie (Madeleine McGraw), Woody (Tom Hanks) is no longer the favorite toy. He tries to assist Forky (Tony Hale), a toy of Bonnie’s creation, but Forky’s antics leave them stranded during a family road trip. Here, Woody reconnects with Bo Peep (Annie Potts).
The most disappointing part of this story is that while audiences assume a new Toy Story will give them more time with their favorite characters, almost everyone is sidelined in favor of new ones that don’t create the same attachment.
Final say: Let Toy Story 3 be the ending you remember. ★★☆☆☆
