An unlikely phenomenon, Squid Game took over the world becoming a massive hit when it was released on Netflix.
Gambling addict Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) participates in a competition playing a series of kid’s games for a large cash prize. During the first game, Gi-hun discovers that far more sinister plans are in place for if you lose the game, you die.
Once the game starts, it’s impossible to look away from your screen. It’s horrible and gory – a mixture of The Hunger Games and Saw – but once you start connecting with the characters, you’ll be rooting for – and against – them.
The cast is brilliant with Lee and Park Hae-soo playing childhood friends together in the competition and O Yeong-su playing an elderly man who will instantly fill your heart.
Final say: Despite the risk, play the game. ★★★★★
