A story about two misfits coming together in their time of need, AJ and the Queen can be corny and unrealistic but that can’t outshine the heart at its core.
Robert (RuPaul) – a.k.a. Ruby Red – plans on opening her own drag nightclub with her boyfriend and business partner Hector (Josh Segarra). After Hector scams Robert out of $100,000, Robert goes on a drag tour across the US. AJ (Izzy G.) stows away in Robert’s RV to be taken to her Pop Pop in Texas.
The show often deals with how drag performers and LGBTQ+ individuals are seen throughout America, and RuPaul has many great moments changing perspectives. With a ton of Drag Race queens in tow, it takes the most heartfelt moments of the competition series into a scripted format.
Final say: Not quite royalty but not far off. ★★★☆☆
