Though it’s supposed to be a parody of mystery psychological thrillers, The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window can’t seem to decide if it wants to become something more serious.
Anna (Kristen Bell) is a painter who’s mourning the loss of her daughter. Shortly after Neil (Tom Riley) moves in across the street, Anna believes she saw the murder of his girlfriend Lisa (Shelley Hennig).
Bell is fantastic as Anna and really delves into her addictions and sorrows. Her character is familiar of Emily Blunt’s from The Girl on the Train as well as James Stewart’s from Rear Window.
The show ultimately suffers from its lack of conviction as a parody or a serious thriller and its continual switch between the two.
Final say: A bit contrived. ★★★☆☆
