Film: Mickey’s Christmas Carol

Opened: December 16, 1983

Directed by: Burny Mattinson

Starring: Alan Young, Wayne Allwine, Hal Smith, Hannes Schroll, Eddie Carroll, Will Ryan, Clarence Nash, Patricia Parris & Dick Billingsley

Taking the classic Charles Dickens Christmas tale and adding in Disney’s most iconic characters makes for a wonderful short for the family.

Greedy Ebenezer Scrooge (Alan Young as Scrooge McDuck) doesn’t like anything to do with Christmas and takes it out on his poor employee Bob Cratchit (Wayne Allwine as Mickey Mouse). On Christmas Eve, Scrooge is visited by three ghosts that show him what the world looks like and his place in it.

With the film being under 30 minutes, parts from the original story are left out and additional comedic moments are added in to keep kids entertained. It moves fast, so you’re always involved with the story.

Watch out for cameos from many Disney cartoons, including Jiminy Cricket, Lady Cluck, Mr. Toad and more. For fans of older offerings, it’s fun to spot.

Final say: Classic retelling. ★★★★☆
