Based off the novel by Big Little Lies author Liane Moriarty, Nine Perfect Strangers suffers from too many storylines and a departure from the original text.
Nine people travel to the Tranquillum House wellness resort run by Masha Dmitrichenko (Nicole Kidman) for a 10-day retreat. Along the way, their lives are revealed, and tensions arise as they disagree with some of the methods being taken.
While the performances of the cast are fantastic, with specific nods to Melissa McCarthy and Regina Hall, there’s not enough of a plot for them to be truly captivating. Kidman – who I’m convinced can do almost no wrong – is entrancing despite her accent.
It’s unfortunate that this text was chosen to be the next Moriarty adaptation as it’s not one of her stronger pieces.
Final say: Some people should remain strangers. ★★☆☆☆
