Showing the troubled later life of beloved actress Judy Garland and flashing back to her days of filming The Wizard of Oz, Judy is a sensitive biopic featuring a stellar performance by lead actress Renee Zellweger.

Facing financial troubles, Judy Garland (Zellweger) travels to the United Kingdom to earn money in a stage show leaving behind her children Lorna (Bella Ramsey) and Joey (Lewin Lloyd) with their father Sydney Luft (Rufus Sewell). She marries her fifth husband Mickey Deans (Finn Wittrock) but struggles with drugs and alcohol.

The Wizard of Oz flashbacks with young Judy (Darci Shaw) and her friendship with Mickey Rooney (Gus Barry) is almost more interesting than the later years. But watching Zellweger onstage singing some of Garland’s most popular songs will have you captivated.

Final say: A great film about a tragic star. ★★★★☆
