Cinderella should be applauded for its modern take on the classic fairytale, but it’s so poorly executed that you lose the goodness in the wacky song choices and uneven acting.
Ella (Camila Cabello) wants to become a dressmaker and own her own shop in town, but her stepmother Vivian (Idina Menzel) disapproves. After a brief encounter with an unknown man, Ella discovers that it’s Prince Robert (Nicholas Galitzine) who is looking for a wife.
Broadway veterans Menzel and Billy Porter (as the Fabulous Godmother) are the strongest with their vocal talents and personality. Cabello is more awkward than charming and has zero chemistry with Galitzine.
The issue with the pop song covers is that many have certain lyrics that fit with the scene but also use lyrics that make no sense.
Final say: The magic is lost way before midnight. ★★☆☆☆
