Wild and perfectly acted by stars Edward Norton, Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter, Fight Club is a timeless cult film that at some level speaks to the everyman rising up to battles the powers that hold him down.
A man (Norton) looks to support groups to feel accepted in society and help him sleep at night. He meets Tyler Durden (Pitt) on a plane and together they start an underground fight club. Tyler then turns the participants into an army called Project Mayhem.
Director David Fincher creates a masterpiece of sorts here using Jim Uhls’ brilliant screenplay to create a constantly uneasy feel that consistently surprises. The grit and grime feels palpable.
Different interpretations allow viewers to experience the film in unique ways and a second watch could unlock a new vision.
Final say: Break the rules. ★★★★★
