From the very start, Saw IV dives into the torture porn and is less imaginative than its predecessors.
With John Kramer (Tobin Bell) and Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith) dead, Officer Daniel Rigg (Lyriq Bent) is set on finding Detective Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg) alive. When he doesn’t listen to Detective Mark Hoffman (Costas Mandylor) about taking time off, Rigg finds himself in Jigsaw’s next game.
The two highlights of the film are that Bent is finally given his time to shine after being in the background the past few films and there’s a good portion of John’s backstory that leads you to understanding his sadistic ways.
However, this doesn’t take away from the frantic shots and unstable editing that will make you just as sick as any of the gore.
Final say: Should’ve been game over. ★★☆☆☆
