Obstetrician/gynecologist Mindy Lahiri (Kaling) is at a low point in her personal life when she attends her ex-boyfriend Tom’s (Bill Hader) wedding. She looks for love while taking over as partner of her practice with co-doctors Danny Castellano (Chris Messina) and Jeremy Reed (Ed Weeks).
As expected, based on her previous performance as Kelly Kapoor, Kaling is consistently spot-on with her comedy and has the best quick comebacks. Some may argue that Mindy is self-centered, which is true, but everything she says is based off thoughts we’ve all had.
The supporting cast – some of which disappear throughout with little to no explanation – is fantastic and will have you wondering how much is improvised vs. written dialogue.
Final say: Joyfully funny. ★★★★☆
