Released: June 21, 2019
By: Kevin McHale
About a year after coming out, actor Kevin McHale’s first solo EP doesn’t shy away from using male pronouns to describe his love for another person. This pop perfectly shows off his smooth vocals and presents his marketability in the music industry.
His voice is familiar after playing Artie Abrams on Glee and while he got his fair share of solos there, McHale was never the center of attention. And while he’s not striving for it here, he shines in new ways.
The lead single, “Help Me Now,” is a great intro and shows off a quiet and curious side where he often refers to himself as “insecure.” With men not often showing vulnerability, it’s a welcome theme that continues on in “Younger” where he talks about losing someone he loved from earlier in life.
Final say: Showing growth. ★★★★☆
