Released: December 11, 2020
By: Taylor Swift
In a surprising twist that made 2020 a little bit better, Taylor Swift released a follow-up to Folklore entitled Evermore, showing that she is one of the – if not the – most defining artists of our generation.
Swift’s storytelling skills within her songwriting are evident and the best comes on the Haim-feature “No Body, No Crime,” which has a similar revenge style to Carrie Underwood’s “Before He Cheats.” She also gives a beautiful tribute to her late grandmother on “Marjorie,” in which her grandmother’s voice is used as background vocals.
There’s a lot about Swift’s past in “Long Story Short” where she seems to address the aftermath of the infamous Kanye West feud including her later relationship with Tom Hiddleston and why that went bad. Time has given her clarity and allows for a maturely written reflection.
Final say: Lyrical genius. ★★★★★
