Despite some pretty heavy early 2000s influences in costuming and filming styles, The Cheetah Girls remains one of Disney Channel’s best original movies by celebrating girl power.
Galleria (Raven-Symoné), Chanel (Adrienne Bailon), Aqua (Kiely Williams) and Dorinda (Sabrina Bryan) are high school students who perform as The Cheetah Girls. When auditioning for their school talent show, music producer Jackal Johnson (Vince Corazza) offers them a chance of a lifetime.
While children might not necessarily notice, this film is wonderfully diverse with races and economic statuses. It’s a strong part of the story but doesn’t take away from the connection all the girls have.
The music is spectacular and set the stage for future Disney Channel musicals. So many of the songs are still certified hits that you’ll love to sing along to.
Final say: You must respect the Cheetah Girls. ★★★★☆
