On: Hulu

A spin-off of the 2018 film Love, Simon and Becky Albertalli’s 2015 novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda, Hulu’s Love, Victor tries to pack a lot of heart, but falls into clichés.

Victor Salazar (Michael Cimino) moves to Atlanta and starts at Creekwood High. He’s trying to figure out his sexual orientation and hears about legendary former Creekwood student Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) who came out at the Winter Carnival, with whom he seeks guidance from.

Though the first few episodes struggle with the writing and defining the characters’ personalities, the second half of the season absolutely shines until the final episode.

Cimino’s Victor is a fresh take with his Latinx family and their issues with love and class, but his best friend Felix (Anthony Turpel) steals the show as the best acted character.

Final say: Like, not love. ★★★☆☆
