Bringing LGBT narratives to the forefront of major Hollywood studio films is critical and Love, Simon is the perfect storytelling dynamic shift.
Based on the Becky Albertalli book, Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) has a big secret that he hasn’t told anyone: he’s gay. He starts messaging an anonymous guy from his school. When Simon starts getting blackmailed by a classmate (Logan Miller), he must make decisions on where he wants his story to go.
Watching this movie, I thought about how amazing it would have been to see this when I was in high school. The story is so positive and sweet, which makes being LGBT feel normal – like it should be.
Robinson gives an emotionally strong performance. And both Jennifer Garner and Josh Duhamel, as his parents, bring their own tear-jerking moments.
Final say: This story is incredibly important. ★★★★★
