With strong characters and jump scares throughout, Insidious is a great horror entry despite its weaker second half.
After moving into a new house, Dalton (Ty Simpkins) falls into an unexplainable coma after falling off a ladder. When paranormal activity starts happening in their house, Dalton’s grandma Lorraine (Barbara Hershey) recommends his parents Josh (Patrick Wilson) and Renai (Rose Byrne) bring in psychic Elise (Lin Shaye) to read the situation.
What benefits the film most and distracts you from some of the flaws is the strong acting by Wilson, Byrne, Shaye and Hershey. All have had strong careers prior to this film, unlike other horror films with inexperienced actors.
When they’re trying to solve Dalton’s issue, the world feels more unreal than it had before and some of the scariness is taken away.
Final say: Overall a good horror flick. ★★★☆☆
