Based on Andy Weir’s novel of the same name, The Martian is one of the best sci-fi films in recent years with an all-star cast and science that’s pretty accurate.
As the crew of Ares III evacuate Mars during a dust storm, Mark Watney (Matt Damon) is struck by debris and NASA announces his death. Mark wakes up stranded on Mars and has to learn how to survive until he can make contact with Earth and be rescued.
Damon gives an incredible performance and knows how bring in comedy even in dire circumstances. The cast around him shines with Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig and Jeff Daniels in great supporting roles.
The cinematography is stunning with Wadi Rum in Jordan acting as Mars. You’ll feel Mark’s sense of isolation as he fights for his life.
Final say: Out of this world. ★★★★★
