Do you have a fear of being alone? Think about being stranded on Mars completely by yourself. Sound intense yet?
In the novel, which was originally self-published in 2011, Andy Weir takes a look at everything that could go wrong – and does go wrong – for astronaut Mark Watney when his crew believes him to be dead and evacuates the planet. Weir mixes humor and a ton of science in this book, which will make you feel like you’ve taken a college course in space survival with a hilarious professor.
Watney is a surprisingly intriguing lead character on his own. Readers will be curious during his explorations, while also laughing at his frustration and lack of filter. The book also spends time on Earth, as well as his crew’s space station.
Final say: Remember to breathe while you read. ★★★★☆
