G.B.F. is a film that’s so bad, it’s actually amazing. With its over-the-top acting, less-than-stellar script and weird filming angles, you’re being set up not to enjoy it, but you might just find you kind of love it.
Tanner Daniels (Michael Willett) accidentally gets outed at school, despite his friend Brent (Paul Iacono) wanting to be the “first live gay.” When three prom queen frontrunners (Sasha Pieterse, Andrea Bowen and Xosha Roquemore) decide a gay best friend will help them win, they take over Tanner’s life.
Willett is endearing in the lead role and is truly the star of the film. He stands out amongst star supporting cast members like Megan Mullally and Natasha Lyonne.
In between the awful one-liners, there’s important social commentary about how the LGBTQIA+ community are treated in school.
Final say: Love to hate it. ★★★☆☆
