With a sad ending that doesn’t really wrap up the story, Free Fall will leave your heart broken and wanting more.
While training for the riot control unit at the police academy, Marc Borgmann (Hanno Koffler) meets fellow trainee Kay Engel (Max Riemelt). Though his girlfriend Bettina (Katharina Schüttler) is pregnant with their first child, Marc falls for Kay and has an affair with him.
Koffler is a joy to watch as he navigates his internal struggle, though you’ll continue to wish he could be honest with someone in his life, even if it’s just with himself. There’s palpable chemistry between him and Riemelt.
Unfortunately, this follows the typical sad gay drama trope and LGBTQIA+ viewers will feel tired of watching the same story again.
Final say: Sparks of joy can’t outshine the depression. ★★★☆☆
