A spinoff film to the popular Disney Channel series, The Lizzie McGuire Movie takes Lizzie (Hilary Duff) on an epic albeit unrealistic adventure.
After graduating from middle school, Lizzie McGuire and her friend Gordo (Adam Lamberg) go on a school trip to Rome where Lizzie is mistaken for pop star Isabella (Duff). Isabella’s former partner, Paolo (Yani Gellman), convinces Lizzie to step into Isabella’s place for the Italian Music Awards.
Watching this as a kid, you get wrapped up in the excitement of Lizzie’s adventures and her budding romance with Paolo. As an adult, you realize Lizzie is 14 and sneaking around a foreign country with a guy who’s probably much older.
Duff is wonderful and she, along with the rest of the cast and crew, keep the spirit of the beloved show.
Final say: What dreams are made of. ★★★★☆
