Equal parts comedy, mystery and thriller, A Simple Favor is a wild ride that will keep surprising you until the very end.
Stephanie Smothers (Anna Kendrick) is a widowed mother who becomes friends with Emily Nelson (Blake Lively), a sophisticated and fashionable mother. When Emily goes missing, Stephanie takes it into her own hands to figure out what’s happened.
Both Kendrick and Lively flawlessly play their roles, both of which seem to be heightened versions of their own personalities. Kendrick brings her quirky comedy and razor-sharp tongue, while Lively is perfectly elegant. However, their characters – along with Henry Golding’s Sean – hide so much that you’re never quite sure whom to believe.
Similar to Gone Girl and The Girl on the Train, by the time the climax hits, your jaw will be on the ground.
Final say: Simple yet satisfying. ★★★★★
