Released: October 6, 1992
By: Amy Grant
Christian singer Amy Grant brings her beautiful vocals to Christmas standards making Home for Christmas a necessary album for your holiday collection.
What makes this album so incredible is that the orchestrations of the songs are just as important as Grant’s vocals. On both “Joy to the World/For Unto Us a Child is Born” and “Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring,” there are minimal vocals with the focus being on the instruments.
Two of the best songs on the album are lesser known holiday classics. Covering Carly Simon’s “The Night Before Christmas” and performing the original “Breath of Heaven (Mary’s Song),” Grant sets herself apart from other artists that stick only to the well-known songs. Especially in the latter, you’ll feel as if she’s embodying the character who’s singing and her emotions are evident.
Final say: Perfect for easy holiday listening. ★★★★★
