Though Betty Buckley shines in the lead role, the national tour of Hello, Dolly! is lacking the humor that makes the show stand.
Dolly Levi Gallagher (Buckley) is a widower who now acts as a matchmaker. While half-millionaire Horace Vandergelder (Lewis J. Stadlen) is set on marrying another widower, Irene Molloy (Analisa Leaming), Dolly’s round his best match yet – herself.
While Buckley holds the show and plays her role with grace and humor, there is no chemistry between her and Stadlen. The two struggle to find their footing together, which makes their relationship bland. The only couple who seems to truly connect well are Irene and Cornelius Hackl (Nic Rouleau).
The sets and choreography are taken directly from the recent Broadway revival and show off the beauty of classic musical theatre.
Final say: Dolly almost misses the parade. ★★★☆☆
