“Life is a cabaret,” crones nightclub singer Sally Bowles (Emma Stone) in this stellar revival.
American writer Cliff Bradshaw (Bill Heck) falls for Kit Kat Club singer Sally Bowles (Emma Stone). They live together in a German boarding house run by Fräulein Schneider (Linda Emond) who falls for Jewish fruit vendor Herr Schultz (Danny Burstein) right as the Nazis are rising to power.
Reprising his Tony-winning performance as the Emcee, Alan Cumming is truly the heart of the show and moves it along with great comedic timing. In her Broadway debut, Stone shines and acts her role to perfection, even if her singing voice isn’t on par with her predecessors.
The storyline gets more dramatic as the show continues, but with well-known songs and intermittent comedy, it’s entertaining from start to finish.
Final say: Come to the cabaret. ★★★★☆
