With a storyline that feels classic and timeless, 42nd Street remains one of the most exciting dance shows in musical theater history.
During the Great Depression, tough Broadway director Julian Marsh (Tom Lister) is determined to put on a wonderful extravaganza of a show. Tensions arise as famous star and diva Dorothy Brock (Bonnie Langford) butts heads with talented chorus girl Peggy Sawyer (Clare Halse).
The most notable part of the show are the extended tap numbers. With original choreography by the legendary Gower Champion and currently choreographed by Randy Skinner, the ensemble shines, especially during the titular song “42nd Street,” led by Halse and Philip Bertioli as Billy Lawlor. Every step is in sync and will impress even the toughest critics.
Final say: A light story and fun music shine with brilliant dancing. ★★★★☆
