With a great deal of humor and honest conversations about teen sexuality and mental health, Sex Education is an essential comedy on Netflix.
Taking what he knows from his sex therapist mother Dr. Jean Milburn (Gillian Anderson), Otis (Asa Butterfield) begins a sex therapy practice at his school with the help of his friends Eric (Ncuti Gatwa) and Maeve (Emma Mackey).
Butterfield plays the role of the socially awkward virgin Otis exceptionally. His chemistry with Anderson, whose overbearing mother role is so sweetly cringeworthy, is flawless and they bring a great deal of laughter to a strong but flawed relationship.
The more emotionally charged storylines are brought forth by Gatwa and Mackey’s characters whom deal with deeply personal issues. With topics of bullying, homosexuality and abortion, the show remains relevant to modern issues.
Final say: A truly fantastic first season. ★★★★★
