A film that got a bad reputation when its trailer was released, I Feel Pretty is actually much better than you’d expect.
Renee Bennett (Amy Schumer) struggles with self-confidence and doesn’t stand up for herself due to her insecurities. While at SoulCycle, she falls off her bike and loses consciousness when she hits her head. Upon waking up, she sees herself as a different person, helping her gain her confidence.
Schumer is fun in the lead role. While you will cringe at the fool her character ends up making of herself, her development at the end justifies everything that happens. Michelle Williams as Avery LeClaire, Renee’s boss at a cosmetic empire, arguably brings the biggest laughs with her high-pitched voice.
However, there are parts of the storyline that are not the most progressive.
Final say: A lesson in feeling pretty. ★★★☆☆
