Set against World War II, Their Finest tells the story of the non-military battles fought in Britain.

When the British Ministry of Information decides to make films about the war to boost morale, Catrin Cole (Gemma Arterton) is brought in to right the women’s dialogue. The team has their challenges to face even though they’re not in the war themselves.

While the film puts Catrin in a love triangle with her husband Ellis (Jack Huston) and fellow screenwriter Tom (Sam Claflin), the majority of the film is about Catrin learning to stand on her own. It’s a heart-warming story.

Bill Nighy is also hilarious playing his usual weird old-man role. This time it feels like it might hit closer to home as his character is an aging actor.

Final say: Light-years better than the book it’s based on. ★★★★★
