Theater: The Boys in the Band – Revival

Opened: May 31, 2018

Book by: Mart Crowley

Broadway Revival Cast: Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer, Andrew Rannells, Charlie Carver, Robin De Jesús, Brian Hutchinson, Michael Benjamin Washington & Tuc Watkins

If you’ve ever had moments with your group of friends that seem tough and awkward, this will speak to you.

A group of gay friends gather at Michael’s (Jim Parsons) apartment to celebrate the birthday of Harold (Zachary Quinto). When an unexpected visitor, Alan (Brian Hutchinson), joins the party, secrets are revealed about everyone.

The camaraderie amongst the cast is fantastic. It seems as if everyone onstage has been friends for years like their characters. The whole cast is openly gay as well, which provides more depth for the stories they’re telling.

You’ll laugh, cry and cringe throughout the show, but it’s because the storyline will bring many experiences of your life to light. Even if you can’t relate to the characters, you’ll recognize what’s happening.

Final say: A disturbingly honest get together. ★★★★☆
