Music: Tapestry

Released: February 10, 1971

By: Carole King

When songwriter Carole King released her debut album in 1971, critics and fans alike went crazy. It’s easy to see why when listening to how well it holds up today.

Every part of the album is emotionally raw with King laying everything out. Though “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman” was made famous by Aretha Franklin’s vocals, you can feel King telling you her story with the passionately restrained vocals.

So much of the album has continued to permeate popular culture since it’s release. “Will You Love Me Tomorrow?” has been covered by numerous artists from Frankie Valli to Amy Winehouse and “Where You Lead” become the Gilmore Girls theme song. Artists recognize the genius and constantly try to recreate it.

Final say: Still is and will forever be one of the best albums of all time. ★★★★★
