While most remember The Sound of Music as the classic Julie Andrews movie, many forget it originated on stage. And while it’s spectacular, you’ll miss the magic of the film while watching it onstage.
Mother Abbess (Ashley Brown) sends postulant Maria (Kerstin Anderson) to watch over the Von Trapp children. While widowed Captain Von Trapp (Ben Davis) tries to find love with Elsa Schraeder (Teri Hansen), he also is trying to resist the advances of Nazi Germany on Austria.
Brown shines as Mother Abbess and steals the show with her incredible rendition of “Climb Ev’ry Mountain.” Anderson and Davis have great chemistry and bring passion to their characters’ romance.
However, without the beauty of the hills, mountains and Austrian landscapes, there just seems to be something missing.
Final say: A great show, but nothing compared to the film. ★★★☆☆
