If there’s anything that will tell you about the quality of comedy in this show, it’s that Carol Burnett returned to Broadway to star in this after a 30-year absence.
Husband and wife acting team George (Philip Bosco) and Charlotte Hay (Burnett) are traveling stage actors performing the classics Cyrano de Bergerac and Private Lives in Buffalo. Charlotte dreams of being in the movies and when Frank Capra comes to see their show, everyone is on their toes.
Full of revolving doors and mistaken identities, Moon Over Buffalo has everything you could want in a comedy. If you aren’t falling out of your seat laughing, you need to just get out of the theater.
The supporting characters are just as enthralling as the leads. However, George and Charlotte steal the show in every scene.
Final say: Slapstick at its best. ★★★★☆
