Tale as old as time, this classic is as vibrant as ever in its live action adaptation.

To save her father (Kevin Kline), Belle (Emma Watson) becomes prisoner in the Beast’s (Dan Steven) castle. She gets to know the furniture and slowly realizes that the beady might not be as bad as he seems.

Featuring an amazingly talented musical cast, the songs in Beauty and the Beast shine as much as the did in the 1991 version. Some, like “Gaston,” may even be better than before.

Emma Watson is the perfect Belle bringing both kindness and determination to the role. Her vocals may be limited, but that’s easily forgiven.

The plot is even expanded to answer some questions that the animated version left us with, though there is a slightly weird time travel scene.

Final say: A new classic. ★★★★☆
