Though Elizabeth (Claire Foy) has been queen for several years at the start of season 2, nothing seems to be easier.
The second season covers an eight-year period from the Suez Crisis in 1956 to the birth of Prince Edward in 1954. The queen goes through two Prime Ministers in this time (Jeremy Northam & Anton Lesser), more marital issues with Prince Philip (Matt Smith) and the pushiness of her sister Margaret (Vanessa Kirby).
Foy is a power to be reckoned with. Her facial expressions deserve an Emmy on their own as you can see every emotion running through her head.
Interesting history lessons are taught throughout including the abdicated King Edward VIII’s (Alex Jennings) involvement in World War II as well as the first royal meeting with the Kennedys (Michael C. Hall & Jodi Balfour).
Final say: Absolutely stunning. ★★★★★
