A modern retelling the 1974 Stephen King novel and 1976 film, Carrie fails to bring anything new to the screen while suffering from lackluster CGI and a too intense lead.

Carrie White (Chloë Grace Moretz) is mocked at school when she has her period for the first time and doesn’t know what to do. Though her mother Margaret (Julianne Moore) tries to shield her from evil, Carrie’s embarrassment at prom leads to terrible consequences.

In the climax, there’s a lot of CGI work and anytime Carrie is standing on a green screen, the audience can tell. It takes away from the horror the film is supposed to embody.

Not looking the part, Moretz puts too much into Carrie and it’s clear that she’s overacting in many scenes. However, screen veterans Moore and Judy Greer have strong moments.

Final say: Unnecessary remake. ★★☆☆☆
