Connecting the tissue that links Prometheus and Alien, Ridley Scott’s latest entry in the Alien franchise has the most thrills since Aliens even when CGI lessens it.
When a colonization ship in mid-orbit hears a human transmission from a nearby planet, Captain Oram (Billy Crudup) decides that the crew should investigate it against the judgement of First Officer Daniels (Katherine Waterston). They come across a deadly entity where David (Michael Fassbender) from Prometheus still survives.
The film is fast-paced and full of action. While it’s exciting to watch, the slow stalking of the Aliens from the original films is missed compared to these ultra-fast ones. Something about the costume and puppetry of the originals also make these feel less of a threat.
However, the ensemble cast is stacked with stellar performances.
Final say: Almost captures the original magic. ★★★★☆
