By: Kelly Clarkson
Though My December is Kelly Clarkson’s largely forgotten third album, listening to it again makes you realize how vulnerable she let herself be.
Following the success of Thankful and Breakaway, Clarkson fought publicly with producer Clive Davis over the content of this album. While it doesn’t have the radio ready hits we’re accustomed to, it shows her struggling with her overwhelming fame. No song presents that stronger than “Hole,” where she states she’s given up and needs to find peace.
“Never Again” opens the album and remains a great breakup anthem. Throughout the album, Clarkson mixes different genres of music from pop to rock to R&B with all of it seamlessly fitting together. Though it’s not an album that will have you instantly singing along, you’ll realize the songs are too good to pass over.
Final say: Revisit this. ★★★★☆
