Though it still stands as one of the longest-running Broadway shows of all-time having been in New York from 1982 to 2000, it’s hard to understand what the attraction to Cats was.

A crew of Jellicle cats come together for their annual Jellicle Ball where Old Deuteronomy (Indalecio de Jesús Valentin) will choose one to ascend to the Heaviside layer where they will be reborn into a new and better life.

The word “Jellicle” is uttered so many times that you’ll be tired of it within the first few minutes. With each cat performing their own song as if you’re watching a talent show, there’s actually little storyline involved.

“Memory” by the beaten down Grizabella (Tayler Harris) is the show’s most well-known song and perhaps its one saving grace.

Final say: Nine lives too many. ★☆☆☆☆
