With original graphic novel author Alice Oseman at the helm, Heartstopper is a perfect coming-of-age romantic comedy adaptation with a heartwarming story and brilliant performances.
After being outed the previous year, Charlie Spring (Joe Locke) returns to Truham Grammar School and becomes friends with rugby player Nick Nelson (Kit Connor). Nick and Charlie grow closer leading Nick to question his sexuality.
Fans of the book series will be delighted as scenes are literally lifted out of the book and put onto the screen. Connor and Locke are so genuine in their portrayals and allow the boys to present honest, nervous emotions, which is often squandered onscreen. Their chemistry is instant, and you’ll constantly cheer for them.
The supporting characters are wonderful, and Yasmin Finney has a stellar debut as trans teen Elle.
Final say: Truly stops your heart. ★★★★★
