With a predictable storyline, Tooth Fairy is fun as a kid’s film but doesn’t hold up well for anyone old enough to know the Tooth Fairy doesn’t exist.
After almost telling Tess (Destiny Whitlock) the Tooth Fairy doesn’t exist, hockey player Derek Thompson (Dwayne Johnson) receives a magical summons that forces him to be a Tooth Fairy for two weeks. While being watched by case manager Tracy (Stephen Merchant) and boss Lily (Julie Andrews), Derek struggles to juggle hockey, fairy duties and his girlfriend Carly (Ashley Judd).
Unsurprisingly, the savior of this film is Andrews in her last live-action film appearance as of 2022. She’s charming and retains the bit of sass all of her best characters have.
The plot is rough, and Derek is hard to like, though you’ll still root for him in the end.
Final say: Almost magic-less. ★★☆☆☆
