Fondly remembered as the Queen of Disco, there was a time when Donna Summer was dominating the charts and forever changing the music industry.
Following her life from her Duckling Donna (Storm Lever), we see how Disco Donna (Ariana DeBose) made her way into the spotlight. She had troubles over the years breaking out of her sound and taking charge of her finances, but Diva Donna (LaChanze) never gave up and cemented her place in music history.
LaChanze acts more of a narrator throughout the show, so it’s DeBose who’s the breakout star cementing he place as a triple threat performer.
Throughout the show, the Donnas speak heavily on women’s rights and often garner large applauses from the audience when it comes to pay gaps.
Final say: Not the greatest bio musical, but you won’t stop singing. ★★★☆☆
