An action movie with women at the helm, Kill Bill, Vol. 1 is an epic revenge story that has a brilliant climactic fight.
The Bride (Uma Thurman) wakes up from a coma she was put into by her former boss Bill (David Carradine) and his Deadly Viper Assassination Squad: O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu), Vernita Green (Vivica A. Fox), Budd (Michael Madsen) and Elle Driver (Darryl Hannah). To avenge her unborn baby, the Bride has put them all on a kill list.
If you’re willing to put up with the typical Tarantino madness, then this movie is a thrill. It’s wild and unsettling and full of blood, but has a strong storyline attached to it that justifies all the action. However, it is odd when the film goes into an extended anime sequence.
Final say: Thurman at her best. ★★★☆☆
