Film: The Amazing Spider-Man

Opened: July 3, 2012

Directed by: Marc Webb

Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Rhys Ifans, Denis Leary, Campbell Scott, Irrfan Khan, Martin Sheen, Sally Field, Max Charles, Chris Zylka, Embeth Davidtz, Kari Coleman, Charlie DePew, Skyler Gisondo & Jacob Rodier

This may be a controversial statement, but The Amazing Spider-Man is better than the original trilogy of Spider-Man films simply because Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone are more endearing leads than Tobey Maguire and Kirsten Dunst.

Peter Parker (Garfield) reconnects with his father’s (Campbell Scott) colleague Dr. Curt Conners (Rhys Ifans) who is experimenting on limb regeneration. When the experiment goes wrong, a lizard terrorizes New York City but Police Captain George Stacy (Denis Leary) is just as obsessed with taking down Spider-Man.

Garfield is such a pure Peter/Spider-Man. His body language and performance is funny, raw and emotional thanks to fantastic chemistry with Stone’s Gwen Stacy and his aunt and uncle (Sally Field and Martin Sheen).

While this villain isn’t as great as the first two in the original trilogy, he’s still fascinating to watch.

Final say: Honestly amazing. ★★★★★
