While American Horror Story may not be as dark and twisted as it has in its past, 1984 sets a new standard as it takes on the slasher movie genre with nods to Friday the 13th and Halloween.
When Brooke Thompson (Emma Roberts) has her apartment broken into by the Night Stalker – Richard Ramirez (Zach Villa) – she joins new friends on their offer for her to become a camp counselor for the summer. However, Camp Redwood is famous for its murders carried out by serial killer Mr. Jingles (John Carroll Lynch).
As with every season of AHS, the storyline gets a bit crazy but keeps you guessing about what is actually happening. If you enjoy the slasher films of the 1980s, there’s nothing better, especially since it brings in the real-world storyline of the Night Stalker.
Final say: Campy scares. ★★★★☆
